When looking for a first birthday party theme for our sweet baby girl, I just knew that a One In A Melon Birthday Party would be perfect for her! I am excited to share all the sweet details from her Watermelon themed birthday party!
You’re one in a melon little girl! I absolutely love how her One In A Melon Birthday party came together!
I cannot believe it, but my baby girl is already one year old! Time goes so quickly, doesn’t it? Since she has a summer birthday and loves food, I knew that a one in a melon watermelon theme would be a perfect birthday party for her. Our baby truly is one in a million. We experienced years of infertility trying to conceive her, and finally, with the help of IVF, our one in a melon baby was born! She is just the happiest baby and is always smiling. Her smile lights up a room and she just radiates joy. We are so lucky to have this sweet girl in our lives.
Okay, on to the party! I have listed sources under most items, sorry I couldn’t find exact links for most of the items! Let me know if you have any questions! Some affiliate links are used in this post!
I may have gone overboard with my older daughter’s first birthday party, so I was determined to keep it simpler this time around. We held the party in my parent’s backyard and splurged on a bounce house for all the older kids to play in! We also rented a tent so there would be a nice, shaded spot to sit and eat.
I usually drive myself crazy with a super detailed, themed menu, so this time decided to just go with standard picnic foods to keep it casual. We had fried chicken, bbq hamburgers, hot dogs, ranch potatoes, pasta salad, corn on the cob, and fruit salad. I saw a lot of people going back for seconds, so the food must have been a hit! Check out my tips for planning the perfect party menu!

For dessert, we had cupcakes, rice krispy treats, watermelon cookies, and brownies. I also put out Watermelon Twizzlers and Sour Patch Watermelon Kids. Lila also got to enjoy this beautiful smash cake made by my friend Carrie, from Batter Bake Shop.

I kept the projects to a minimum, but did paint these cardboard letters to look like a watermelon. I figured they would be a good keepsake and could be displayed in her room later. I purchased all the watermelon items I could find and used those to decorate!
Let me tell you that this highchair bunting was a definite fail. I saw a similar item on Etsy and decided to DIY it to save money. Well…after buying all the ribbon and embellishments for the bunting, I ended up spending twice the cost of the original item. Oh well. It looked cute!
